Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Walmyr de Carvalho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Orlando Couto having to interfere. Dráuzio Palmeira scored 1-0 in the 38th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Orlando Couto, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Eusébio Carioca hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Walmyr de Carvalho stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Walmyr de Carvalho in the 51st minute of play forced Argola's goalkeeper Orlando Couto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dráuzio Palmeira might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Orlando Couto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dráuzio Palmeira ran back to his position shaking his head. Orlando Couto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nilton Ribeiro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Perivaldo Rezende fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reginaldo Abreu having to interfere. In the 66th minute the ball was on its way in behind Argola's goalkeeper Orlando Couto, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Walmyr de Carvalho spun around in front of the goal 68 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Argola's goal. 70 minutes into the match, Argola's goal looked a bit too open when Dráuzio Palmeira came free, but Orlando Couto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Walmyr de Carvalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 74 minutes into the game, Nilton Ribeiro cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Orlando Couto was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. José Vítor de Queirós recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 79th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Argola's zone, Dráuzio Palmeira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Orlando Couto came out of the goal and Dráuzio Palmeira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
