After some careless play in the Itapuan EC defense, Carlinhos Schmidt kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Vicente Prata. The Itapuan EC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Vicente Prata should have stopped the shot. Armandinho Urbano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vicente Prata having to interfere. Göran Abrahamsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tiago Azevedo in the 30th minute of the match. A collision led to Itapuan EC getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. José Paulo Terra hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Itapuan EC's zone, Armandinho Urbano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vicente Prata came out of the goal and Armandinho Urbano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Vicente Prata was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Arlindo Faustino. Carlinhos Schmidt took the ball and in the 45 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Vicente Prata. Vicente Prata dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

51 minutes into the match, Itapuan EC's goal looked a bit too open when Carlinhos Schmidt came free, but Vicente Prata reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Carlinhos Schmidt struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Vicente Prata didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Santos FC. Armandinho Urbano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vicente Prata having to interfere. When the match clock showed 59 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Armandinho Urbano sped through Itapuan EC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Vicente Prata. Göran Abrahamsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Claudinei do Valle in the 70th minute of play. If Tiago Azevedo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Göran Abrahamsson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Claudinei do Valle's shot from short distance in the 75th minute. Carlinhos Schmidt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Vicente Prata tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 82nd minute, Armandinho Urbano made a precise shot to the right of Vicente Prata. Itapuan EC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-0. Carlinhos Schmidt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the match had gone on for 87 minutes, Armandinho Urbano put it in 5-0 from a short distance just to the right of Vicente Prata. A collision led to Itapuan EC getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Júlio Saraiva hit a great ball. Santos FC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
