The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Remo Urbano made a fantastic save in the 4th minute, when Abel Paes sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodrigo Santana in the 7th minute of play forced Valparaiba SS's goalkeeper João Negri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. João Negri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from César Barreto, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Rony Ramalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rony Ramalho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but João Negri read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 33rd minute of play. In the 35th minute of the match Dorian Couto shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Remo Urbano showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 40th minute Giovani Melo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Remo Urbano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tibúrcio Leme was the one to do the kick off. Remo Urbano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tibúrcio Leme in the 53rd minute of play. After having played for 54 minutes, Abel Paes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Valparaiba SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abel Paes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 59th match minute, Valparaiba SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abel Paes to maneuver through the defense. Silvério Braga's late challenge caught a Jacaraipe AD's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Silvério Braga helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Jacaraipe AD booed when Valparaiba SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Silvério Braga didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Rony Ramalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Valparaiba SS's Dorian Couto got a free kick in the 68th minute. A collision led to Valparaiba SS getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Emílio Guimarães hit a great ball. If Abel Paes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tibúrcio Leme in the 85th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Remo Urbano prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Rony Ramalho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 92nd minute of the match Emerson Barros sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but João Negri skillfully saved the ball. João Negri made a fantastic save in the 94th minute, when Rony Ramalho sent off a good shot on target. Giovani Melo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Remo Urbano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luís Paulo Gerber hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. For all the effort they put into the match, the Jacaraipe AD players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Valparaiba SS.
