He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Domelia FC reached it. In the 19th match minute, Joacaba was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tony Abraão to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Domelia FC's Wellington Cavalcante got control of the ball when Natã do Nascimento tried to sneak it across the goal line. 24 minutes into the game, Ruy Zonta was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Joacaba's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Domelia FC the free kick. Domelia FC's Wellington Cavalcante proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 47th minute of the match, managed to save Domelia FC from getting a goal against them. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Américo de Queiroz to make the kick off. The supporters of Joacaba booed when Domelia FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Claudinei Vides didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Joacaba fans' excitement grew in the 62nd match minute when Joacaba's Erasmo Trevisan looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. An unexpected shot in the 69th minute by Eugênio Barral got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Eugênio Barral who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 71stth minute tested the skills of Dráusio Leal when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Wellington Cavalcante showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Natã do Nascimento in the 78th minute of the match. When Christian Paraibano fell near the penalty area in the 79th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Joacaba's protests and gave Christian Paraibano a yellow card for diving instead. Natã do Nascimento received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Wellington Cavalcante tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
