Inguma Verdu might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Carlos Pernambucano. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Inguma Verdu ran back to his position shaking his head. A collision led to cruzeiro getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Aírton Britto hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edvaldo Pontes in the 30th minute of play forced cruzeiro's goalkeeper Hugo Marques to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Carlos Pernambucano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Inguma Verdu in the 38th minute of the match. A collision led to Itupeva getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Dionísio Martins hit a great ball. Inguma Verdu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Itupeva's zone, Inguma Verdu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carlos Pernambucano came out of the goal and Inguma Verdu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Aírton Britto lost his temper 55 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 54th minute, one of cruzeiro:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for cruzeiro. In the 59th minute, Marquinhos Félix left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The cruzeiro fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Hugo Marques showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Serginho Carneiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Carlos Pernambucano didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when cruzeiro's Marquinhos Félix shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 2-0 in the ordered_time% minute.
