But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zé Pedro Pimenta couldn't finish the play. Zé Pedro Pimenta might have been able to make a better finish in the 18th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Célio Ribeiro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Zé Pedro Pimenta ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 22nd minute, Nildo Nogueira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 23rd minute, Zé Pedro Pimenta ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Célio Ribeiro was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. In the 29th minute, Nildo Nogueira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Elias da Mata could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Célio Ribeiro made a huge save. After 37 minutes of play Flamengo Esporte Clube's Luiz Sá was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 38th match minute, Flamengo Esporte Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Sá to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Agrinco getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Kaká Mineiro hit a great ball. After having played for 42 minutes, Elias da Mata managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Flamengo Esporte Clube's supporters crossed their fingers, but Elias da Mata was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Zé Pedro Pimenta blasted a shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Célio Ribeiro having to make a save.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gláuber Negri to make the kick off. Agrinco's Gláuber Negri got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Zé Pedro Pimenta kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. The supporters of Flamengo Esporte Clube booed when Agrinco was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dé Corrêa didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Téo Guerra in the 63rd minute of play forced Agrinco's goalkeeper Célio Ribeiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gláuber Negri got free with Vitinho de Souza in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 71 played minutes Flamengo Esporte Clube got a freekick which was hit by Zé Pedro Pimenta. Elias da Mata received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Célio Ribeiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Flamengo Esporte Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Téo Guerra was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Célio Ribeiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Ramiro Velloso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After a defensive mix-up in Agrinco's zone, Zé Pedro Pimenta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Célio Ribeiro came out of the goal and Zé Pedro Pimenta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. There was no doubt that Flamengo Esporte Clube were the better team. Flamengo Esporte Clube's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
