Ronaldão Carvalho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Francisco Fonseca, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, Vila Real's Ronaldão Carvalho got control of the ball when João Francisco Fonseca tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, Vila Real's Luizão Mendonça got a free kick in the 13th minute. Ronaldão Carvalho didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from João Francisco Fonseca went, in the 27th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Hélio Pitta recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dagoberto Freire lost his temper 43 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. Marquinhos Torres walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Clóvis Silveira to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute Clóvis Silveira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronaldão Carvalho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Afonso Carvalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Afonso Carvalhos short, quick shot in the 60thth minute got Jaime Donato to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 61st minute, Válter Torres got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to Vila Real getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Vito Albuquerque hit a great ball. 68 minutes into the match, Mondai EC's goalkeeper Jaime Donato had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Afonso Carvalho. Alan Rezende kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. Ernani Simão, 71 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. 72 minutes into the game, Hélio Pitta was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mondai EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vila Real the free kick. A collision led to Mondai EC getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Ronaldão Carvalho was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After having played for 80 minutes, Hélio Pitta managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mondai EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hélio Pitta was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 81st minute, Edmílson Aguiar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Afonso Carvalho, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 85 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Jaime Donato was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Vila Real's Ronaldão Carvalho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alan Rezende in the 92nd minute of play. The referee gave Mondai EC a penalty, 94 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Marquinhos Torres, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Vila Real's Ronaldão Carvalho. 3-1. Vila Real's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
