Renatinho Pimenta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guga Arce in the 8th minute of play. Santos FC's Jano Tasso got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 12th minute, Telmo Palmeira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 21 minutes, Jano Tasso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Santos FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jano Tasso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Renatinho Pimenta was out of position in the 25 minute of play, and Guga Arce capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Guga Arce really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. If Paulo Renato Albuquerque had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 47th minute, Osmar Ceresso made a precise shot to the right of Agostinho Figueiredo. Santos FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Santos FC's Gustavo Bittencourt got a free kick in the 60th minute. Agostinho Figueiredo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Renato Albuquerque, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Leonardo das Neves charged in rather forcefully in the 78th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Leonardo das Neves the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Santos FC getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Leonardo das Neves hit a great ball. Piacaba FC were awarded a corner in the 81th minute after Santos FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Rogério de Souza took the corner. 85 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goalkeeper Agostinho Figueiredo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Osmar Ceresso. Jano Tasso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Renatinho Pimenta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Piacaba FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
