After 17 minutes, Zé Augusto Salles mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Itapoan SS and the washington players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of washington booed when Itapoan SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zé Augusto Salles didn't get a good kick on the ball. Diogo Jacinto was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.

The wind increased when Luiz Gustavo Vieira made the kick off in the second half. Thiago de Amaral's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Diogo Jacinto read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 53rd minute of play. Agostinho Mineiro's late challenge caught a washington's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Paulo Renato Prestes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ulysses Siqueira, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Paulo Renato Prestes came out of the goal and Luiz Gustavo Vieira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. André Luís Pereira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 96th minute the ball was on its way in behind washington's goalkeeper Diogo Jacinto, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
