Giuseppe Goiano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dedé Paulista, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Luverdense Esporte Clube's zone, Dedé Paulista stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Giuseppe Goiano came out of the goal and Dedé Paulista tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Giuseppe Goiano stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dedé Paulista's shot from short distance in the 35th minute. When Dedé Paulista came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Juquitiba SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dedé Paulista couldn't finish the play. After having played for 43 minutes, Marcel Paraibano managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Juquitiba SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marcel Paraibano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Dedé Paulista made the kick off in the second half. Dedé Paulista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out.
