The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 4 minutes of play, Joinvile SS's José Pedro Neiva made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Joinvile SS's Donatello Romero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luciano Schmidt in the 11th minute of play. In the 15thth minute of the game José Pedro Neiva who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Magarai's Anselmo Medeiros was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. José Pedro Neiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Anselmo Medeiros having to interfere. 19 minutes into the match, Magarai's goal looked a bit too open when Orlando do Vale came free, but Anselmo Medeiros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 21 minutes, Durvalino Arce mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Joinvile SS and the Magarai players grew even worse after the yellow card. After the first half Joinvile SS were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Magarai's Anselmo Medeiros proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save Magarai from getting a goal against them. Wilton de Sousa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donatello Romero having to interfere. The supporters of Joinvile SS booed when Magarai was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Franklin Carneiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Orlando do Vale managed to get in a good position for a shot. Joinvile SS's supporters rose to their feet, but Orlando do Vale was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Anselmo Medeiros breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Orlando do Vale in the 87th minute of play forced Magarai's goalkeeper Anselmo Medeiros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Orlando do Vale sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. José Pedro Neiva received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute.
