The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee ignored Aprigio's protests and gave Percival Perez a yellow card for diving instead. In the 3rd minute, Percival Perez hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 4th minute of the match Clemente Trancoso shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Waldemar Reis showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Waldemar Reis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlinhos Meira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 10 minutes into the game, Paulão Cruz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Pucazeiro SS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Aprigio the free kick. Paulão Cruz hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. 13 minutes into the match, Aprigio's goal looked a bit too open when Toninho Paes came free, but Waldemar Reis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 24th minute, Renato Prado got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Waldemar Reis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Toninho Paes in the 42nd minute of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Aluísio Koehler to make the kick off. Renato Prado received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Waldemar Reis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Celso Botelho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. Rogério Pimenta helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Pucazeiro SS booed when Aprigio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rogério Pimenta didn't get a good kick on the ball. Aprigio's Celso Botelho got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
