When Geovanni Meira fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Matutina's protests and gave Geovanni Meira a yellow card for diving instead. Geovanni Meira kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Matutina's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Benjamim Paiva was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. 39 minutes into the match, Matutina's goal looked a bit too open when Benjamim Paiva came free, but Eliseu Domingues reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Chico Esteves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eliseu Domingues having to interfere. With an all-out effort, Matutina's Váldson Koehler threw himself towards the right post 42 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Geovanni Meira, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. With a little luck, Japaratuba EC's Váldson Koehler got control of the ball when Arí Figueiredo tried to sneak it across the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Chico Esteves made a kick off. Dorian Correia's late challenge caught a Japaratuba EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eliseu Domingues came out of the goal and Chico Esteves tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arí Figueiredo in the 73rd minute of play forced Japaratuba EC's goalkeeper Váldson Koehler to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Matutina booed when Japaratuba EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. João Pedro Ortiz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Váldson Koehler made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arí Figueiredo in the 75th minute of play. If Benjamim Paiva had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. Japaratuba EC's Váldson Koehler played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arí Figueiredo in the 84th minute of play. Japaratuba EC's attentive Vicente Maranhense managed to snatch the ball when Robinho Sousa made a throw-in in the 87th minute of the game. Thanks to some nice moves Benjamim Paiva could shoot a difficult shot in the 88th minute, which Eliseu Domingues however easily saved by the left post. 90 minutes into the match, Matutina's goalkeeper Eliseu Domingues had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Benjamim Paiva. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chico Esteves in the 92nd minute of play forced Matutina's goalkeeper Eliseu Domingues to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eliseu Domingues made a fantastic save in the 96th minute, when Benjamim Paiva sent off a good shot on target. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Japaratuba EC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
