The Moreira FC fans' excitement grew in the 13th match minute when Moreira FC's Valdomiro de Almeida looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Ruy Zonta recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience was convinced that Tião Hoffmann's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marcus Barreto was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. In the 25th minute, Caetano dos Santos had to be helped off the field due to a pulled leg muscle. Valdomiro de Almeida's late challenge caught a Fluminense Football Club's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Fluminense Football Club's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Marcus Barreto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Valdomiro de Almeida, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. In the 41st minute, Tião Hoffmann left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Moreira FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ruy Zonta stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Valdomiro de Almeida might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcus Barreto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Valdomiro de Almeida ran back to his position shaking his head. If Tião Hoffmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Moreira FC players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
