Vágner Veiga received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Beto Tinoco came out and tried to block the shot, but Vágner Veiga slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 22nd minute. Washington Queirós hit a great ball. 55 minutes into the match, Cuiaba's Dorival Paranaense sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Beto Tinoco narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Melquiades's Fernão do Nascimento got a free kick in the 57th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Romeu Barral during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Romeu Barral kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Eugênio Gomes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Melquiades's supporters rose to their feet, but Eugênio Gomes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. In the 83rdth minute of the game Vágner Veiga who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Melquiades's Beto Tinoco was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Vágner Veiga received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Beto Tinoco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Fernão do Nascimento fell near the penalty area in the 88th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Melquiades's protests and gave Fernão do Nascimento a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Cuiaba booed when Melquiades was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fernão do Nascimento didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Melquiades players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
