The audience thought a goal was coming when Antônio Lara got free with Samuca Montenegro in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Santa City's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Jairo das Neves in the 24th minute. The corner ended in Jairo das Neves almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Boca Juniors's Samuca Montenegro did a great save. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Antônio Lara was the one to do the kick off. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Boca Juniors reached it. If Paulo José Fernandes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Boca Juniors's Samuca Montenegro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ricardo Capixaba in the 56th minute of play. 59 minutes into the match, Boca Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Paulo José Fernandes came free, but Samuca Montenegro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Boca Juniors defense, Ricardo Capixaba kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Samuca Montenegro. The Boca Juniors fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Samuca Montenegro should have stopped the shot. Basílio Seco helped the player get up and apologised. In the 84th match minute, Boca Juniors was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Basílio Seco to maneuver through the defense. Yan Arruda sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 90th minute, Hélio de Andrade hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Samuca Montenegro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulo José Fernandes in the 92nd minute of the match. Yan Arruda struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Bruninho Custódio didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Boca Juniors.
