In the 4th minute Elias Cardozo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Albertinho Cearense saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Albertinho Cearense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Serginho das Neves, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. Albertinho Cearense came out of the goal in the 7th minute to try and stop a shot by Sobradinho E.C's Elias Cardozo. But to his dismay, Elias Cardozo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. In the 9th match minute, Sobradinho E.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cristiano Favoretto to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Sobradinho E.C booed when BOTAFOGO was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anselmo Lara didn't get a good kick on the ball. Elias Cardozo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Albertinho Cearense having to interfere. After 17 minutes, Raimundo Paraibano mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the BOTAFOGO and the Sobradinho E.C players grew even worse after the yellow card. Serginho das Neves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Albertinho Cearense having to interfere. After 22 played minutes, BOTAFOGO's Júlio Carioca shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Gernando Borges came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in BOTAFOGO reached it. If Serginho das Neves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Elias Cardozo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Albertinho Cearense having to interfere. During the 35th minute of the match Raimundo Paraibano completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Raimundo Paraibano a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 36th minute, Raimundo Paraibano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In a very dangerous position, a player in BOTAFOGO fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 38th minute. Penalty! Elias Cardozo might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Albertinho Cearense. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Elias Cardozo ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, BOTAFOGO's Váldson Guerra got a free kick in the 44th minute. Albertinho Cearense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Elias Cardozo, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

With a little luck, BOTAFOGO's Albertinho Cearense got control of the ball when Serginho das Neves tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Sobradinho E.C's zone, Anselmo Lara stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gernando Borges came out of the goal and Anselmo Lara tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 59th minute, Armandinho Félix hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 66th minute of the match, Serginho das Neves got a very nice opportunity to score, but Albertinho Cearense was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. BOTAFOGO's Anselmo Lara got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Anselmo Lara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 71 minutes into the match, BOTAFOGO's goal looked a bit too open when Elias Cardozo came free, but Albertinho Cearense reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Serginho das Neves managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sobradinho E.C's supporters rose to their feet, but Serginho das Neves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Albertinho Cearense breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 79 minutes, Elias Cardozo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sobradinho E.C's supporters crossed their fingers, but Elias Cardozo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Serginho das Neves during the 80th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 80th match minute, Sobradinho E.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Serginho das Neves to maneuver through the defense. Serginho das Nevess short, quick shot in the 86thth minute got Albertinho Cearense to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 88th minute, Sobradinho E.C's Elias Cardozo dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-3. Albertinho Cearense made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Elias Cardozo in the 95th minute of play. When the match was over Sobradinho E.C could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than BOTAFOGO throughout the match.
