Charles Hoffmann recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Lino Alves took the ball and in the 17 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Luís Fernando Melo. Luís Fernando Melo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Luís Fernando Melo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Charles Hoffmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Lino Alves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd minute, Charles Hoffmann got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Luís Fernando Melo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Lino Alves's shot from short distance in the 34th minute. In the 38th minute Lino Alves shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Fernando Melo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 41 minutes into the game, Mandiquera's Lino Alves nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Luís Fernando Melo made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-4.
