Grêmio F.R.G's Alfredo Valladares got a good chance for a goal in the 3rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jano Damiãos short, quick shot in the 5thth minute got Bruninho Guimarães to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Through an outstanding action, after 6 minutes, Bruninho Guimarães successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Brasilia SC's Bruninho Guimarães played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jano Damião in the 6th minute of play. Jano Damião had several of the Brasilia SC's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 14 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Bruninho Guimarães as he didn't even see the shot coming. Bruninho Guimarães stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jano Damião's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jano Damião in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bruninho Guimarães prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Elói Tavares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 25th minute Jano Damião shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bruninho Guimarães saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bruninho Guimarães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jano Damião, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Elói Tavares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grêmio F.R.G's supporters rose to their feet, but Elói Tavares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bruninho Guimarães breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Jano Damião got free in front of the goal in the 40th minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Bruninho Guimarães was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Elói Tavares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bruninho Guimarães having to interfere. 45 minutes into the game, one of Brasilia SC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jano Damião made a kick off. 54 minutes into the match, Brasilia SC's goal looked a bit too open when Elói Tavares came free, but Bruninho Guimarães reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jano Damião in the 56th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Bruninho Guimarães saved Brasilia SC from getting behind. After 58 minutes, Zé Carlos de Souza mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Grêmio F.R.G and the Brasilia SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 58th minute, Zé Carlos de Souza hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elói Tavares in the 66th minute of play forced Brasilia SC's goalkeeper Bruninho Guimarães to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bruninho Guimarães made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jano Damião in the 68th minute of play. When Grêmio F.R.G's Jano Damião in the 75th minute got a chance for a shot 75th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Brasilia SC's goalie prevented a goal. Elói Tavares recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 78th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Elói Tavares came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Grêmio F.R.G fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Elói Tavares couldn't finish the play. Bruninho Guimarães stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jano Damião's shot from short distance in the 83rd minute. Diogo Bastos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cássio Queiroz, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. In the 88th minute, Elói Tavares got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jano Damião fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bruninho Guimarães having to interfere. If Elói Tavares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
