Funchal's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave UBIRATAN FC the free kick. Amerigo Rosato walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Eriberto Vale took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luiz Fábio Proença, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Pedro Luís Almeida was a little too slow when Oscar Vasconcelos got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 14th minute. The score was now 1-1. Bebeto Varela sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 24th minute Oscar Vasconcelos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Luís Almeida saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Mazinho Rezende had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When UBIRATAN FC's Luiz Fábio Proença in the 31st minute got a chance for a shot 31st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Funchal's goalie prevented a goal. UBIRATAN FC's João Vítor de Castro got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 34 minutes into the match, Luiz Fábio Proença notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Funchal's Eriberto Vale. Eriberto Vale was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 40 minutes into the match, Maurinho Urbano dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Pedro Luís Almeida, 2-2. After the first half UBIRATAN FC were leading 2-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Oscar Vasconcelos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Pedro Luís Almeida showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mazinho Rezende, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. 55 minutes into the match, UBIRATAN FC's goal looked a bit too open when Oscar Vasconcelos came free, but Pedro Luís Almeida reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in UBIRATAN FC's zone, Bebeto Varela stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pedro Luís Almeida came out of the goal and Bebeto Varela tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Pedro Luís Almeida showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bebeto Varela, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. Luiz Fábio Proença who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 74thth minute tested the skills of Eriberto Vale when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The audience was convinced that Bebeto Varela's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Pedro Luís Almeida was relentless in the 79th minute of the game. Pedro Luís Almeida showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bebeto Varela, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. If Luiz Fábio Proença had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. João Vítor de Castro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eriberto Vale having to interfere. The UBIRATAN FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing UBIRATAN FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
