Edgar dos Santos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Walmyr Trevisan in the 12th minute of the match. Ronaldo Meirelles took the ball and in the 14 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Edgar dos Santos. Edgar dos Santos dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. André Novaes scored 2-1 in the 20th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ademir Garcia, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 24 minutes into the match, Cabura's goal looked a bit too open when Benedito Vianna came free, but Ademir Garcia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 25th minute, Benedito Vianna got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Joseense were furious when Ademir Bezerra was red carded, 27 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. A collision led to Joseense getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Ademir Bezerra hit a great ball. 29 minutes into the match, Benê Massa had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Edgar dos Santos. Joseense's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Benê Massa was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. Joseense's Edgar dos Santos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Washington Cardozo in the 32nd minute of play. After 36 played minutes Cabura got a freekick which was hit by Walmyr Trevisan. Erkki Asso might have been able to make a better finish in the 37th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ademir Garcia. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Erkki Asso ran back to his position shaking his head. Ademir Garcia showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Guilherme Negri, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. 46 minutes into the match, Joseense's Erkki Asso sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ademir Garcia narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ademir Garcia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from André Novaes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Ademir Garcia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 54 minutes into the game, André Novaes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-2. Erkki Asso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. Joseense's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
