Fiori de Barros was out of position in the 28 minute of play, and Jorginho Coutinho capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Jorginho Coutinho really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. After a defensive mix-up in Maracaju SC's zone, Dida Rodrigues stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fiori de Barros came out of the goal and Dida Rodrigues tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when João Paulo Salgado stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 52 minutes, Enéas Rosado managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. União Guaraituba's supporters crossed their fingers, but Enéas Rosado was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorginho Coutinho in the 57th minute of play forced Maracaju SC's goalkeeper Fiori de Barros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dida Amaral in the 58th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fiori de Barros saved Maracaju SC from getting behind. Jorginho Coutinho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Fiori de Barros having to make a save. Fiori de Barros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dida Rodrigues in the 64th minute of the match. In the 66th minute of the match União Guaraituba got a corner. Maracaju SC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Maracaju SC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jorginho Coutinho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. Jorginho Coutinho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 99th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. There was no doubt that União Guaraituba were the better team. União Guaraituba's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
