When José Maria Leite came up free with the goalie in the 7th minute, the Engenho de Dentro FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that José Maria Leite couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Engenho de Dentro FC booed when Itaguira FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Nogueira didn't get a good kick on the ball. José Maria Leite recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 11 played minutes Itaguira FC got a freekick which was hit by Giovani Bezerra. 22 minutes into the game, José Maria Leite cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Aníbal Paranaense was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 30th minute, Marcel Barbosa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 31 minutes into the match, Engenho de Dentro FC's goal looked a bit too open when Raí Mendes came free, but Vivaldo Soeiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alex Damião recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Itaguira FC getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Doriva Melo hit a great ball. If José Maria Leite had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aníbal Paranaense showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alex Damião in the 47th minute of the match. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Teodoro Peres made the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Teodoro Peres dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Vivaldo Soeiro, 1-1. After 56 played minutes Engenho de Dentro FC got a freekick which was hit by Dionísio Saldanha. Teodoro Peres struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Vivaldo Soeiro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Itaguira FC. In the 62nd minute, José Maria Leite got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. David Nogueira's late challenge caught a Engenho de Dentro FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. David Nogueira helped the player get up and apologised. David Nogueira hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. 65 minutes into the game, Engenho de Dentro FC's José Maria Leite nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Aníbal Paranaense made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Alex Damião received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Aníbal Paranaense tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Itaguira FC's Erasmo Silva got a free kick in the 80th minute. 84 minutes into the match, Teodoro Peres dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Vivaldo Soeiro, 2-2. In the 89th minute Raí Mendes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vivaldo Soeiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. José Maria Leite fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aníbal Paranaense having to interfere. 97 minutes into the match, José Maria Leite had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Aníbal Paranaense. Itaguira FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that José Maria Leite was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-2. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Engenho de Dentro FC fully deserved thier win.
