Jacinto Lago started the match with the kick off. Dedé Couto hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. A collision led to Corumbaense F.C. getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Luiz Fernando Alvarenga hit a great ball. Vasco SA's Luís Fábio Lira shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 6th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Dário Couto but with some difficulty. When Eliézer Madureira fell near the penalty area in the 8th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Corumbaense F.C.'s protests and gave Eliézer Madureira a yellow card for diving instead. If Eduardo Garcia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 18 minutes, Cafu de Brito managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vasco SA's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cafu de Brito was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dário Couto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eduardo Garcia, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Eliézer Madureira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edmílson de Senna having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Corumbaense F.C.'s zone, Cafu de Brito stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dário Couto came out of the goal and Cafu de Brito tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Cafu de Brito managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vasco SA's supporters rose to their feet, but Cafu de Brito was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dário Couto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eduardo Garcia in the 34th minute of play forced Corumbaense F.C.'s goalkeeper Dário Couto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 36 minutes into the match, Jacinto Lago had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Edmílson de Senna. Vasco SA's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jacinto Lago was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. In the 41st minute, Eduardo Garcia reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Dário Couto. The goal made the score 2-1. Cafu de Brito sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Eduardo Garcia in the 47th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dário Couto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Eduardo Garcia to make the kick off. Dário Couto stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Eduardo Garcia's shot from short distance in the 53rd minute. The supporters of Vasco SA booed when Corumbaense F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luiz Fernando Alvarenga didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Corumbaense F.C. defense, Cafu de Brito kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dário Couto. The Corumbaense F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dário Couto should have stopped the shot. In the 60th minute, Jacinto Lago got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 64thth minute of the game Cafu de Brito who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Corumbaense F.C.'s Dário Couto was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After having played for 68 minutes, Eduardo Garcia managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vasco SA's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eduardo Garcia was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dário Couto came out of the goal in the 77th minute to try and stop a shot by Vasco SA's Eduardo Garcia. But to his dismay, Eduardo Garcia quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. Eliézer Madureira blasted a shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Edmílson de Senna having to make a save. Eduardo Garcia struck a weak shot in the 83rd minute. Dário Couto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vasco SA. Roberto Ramos charged in rather forcefully in the 85th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Roberto Ramos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 85th match minute, Vasco SA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Roberto Ramos to maneuver through the defense. Eliézer Madureira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dário Couto stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Eduardo Garcia's shot from short distance in the 90th minute. Edmílson de Senna took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jacinto Lago, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vasco SA's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
