With a little luck, MI BR's José Augusto das Neves got control of the ball when Amílton Peres tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in MI BR's zone, Hermínio Duarte stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. José Augusto das Neves came out of the goal and Hermínio Duarte tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 20th minute, Amílton Peres made a precise shot to the right of José Augusto das Neves. MI BR's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Samuca Varela during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 25 played minutes MI BR got a freekick which was hit by Samuca Varela. VIDA BOA E. C.'s Amílton Peres got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Eugênio Saraiva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Júlio Lucas in the 33rd minute of play. After 34 played minutes VIDA BOA E. C. got a freekick which was hit by Márcio Sampaio. In the 36th minute Amílton Peres shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Augusto das Neves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. José Augusto das Neves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hermínio Duarte, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. 37 minutes into the game, Afonsinho Eger was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. MI BR's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave VIDA BOA E. C. the free kick. Afonsinho Eger hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Amílton Peres's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 48thth minute, José Augusto das Neves skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Márcio Sampaio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Augusto das Neves having to interfere. José Augusto das Neves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amílton Peres, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. José Augusto das Neves stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Amílton Peres's shot from short distance in the 56th minute. The supporters of MI BR booed when VIDA BOA E. C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zeca Leão didn't get a good kick on the ball.
