Spectators: 6931 (Terracing: 5429, Seating: 1500, VIP seats: 2) Cracatua's José Paulo Félix started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Cracatua's Carlos Travassos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tostão Braga in the 25th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Ipatinga's zone, José Paulo Félix stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Róbson Ferreira came out of the goal and José Paulo Félix tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Oséias Paes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Róbson Ferreira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Tostão Braga managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ipatinga's supporters rose to their feet, but Tostão Braga was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlos Travassos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 39 minutes into the game, Tostão Braga was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ipatinga's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cracatua the free kick. In the 48th minute, Jaime de Godoy hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 49th minute, Benê Moreno managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ipatinga's supporters rose to their feet, but Benê Moreno was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlos Travassos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Tostão Braga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Travassos having to interfere. Carlos Travassos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tostão Braga, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Júlio da Cunha in the 63rd minute of play forced Cracatua's goalkeeper Carlos Travassos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 66th minute there was a penalty for Ipatinga. Benê Moreno stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Carlos Travassos. 1-0. Giuseppe Madureira hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. José Paulo Félix recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Cracatua's Geraldo de Senna got a free kick in the 76th minute. 77 minutes into the match, Cracatua's goal looked a bit too open when Tostão Braga came free, but Carlos Travassos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Ipatinga booed when Cracatua was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zé Bertassi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Walmir Sampaio hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. Júlio da Cunha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Travassos having to interfere. If Tostão Braga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carlos Travassos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Júlio da Cunha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Ipatinga players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
