The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Frederico Albuquerque the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Sport Club Recife protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Frederico Albuquerque had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The goalkeeper, Nelsinho Berger, was totally fooled by Piabanha FC's Celsinho Hoffmann, who 5 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Thanks to some nice moves Alessandro Campidelis could shoot a difficult shot in the 9th minute, which Nelsinho Berger however easily saved by the left post. With a little luck, Sport Club Recife's Nelsinho Berger got control of the ball when Celsinho Hoffmann tried to sneak it across the goal line. Piabanha FC's Franklin Araújo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ulysses Pirani in the 15th minute of play. In the 18th minute Celsinho Hoffmann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nelsinho Berger saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 29th minute, Zézinho Romero hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 32nd minute of the game Sílvio Luís Sergipano made a throw-in which Alessandro Campidelis played forward. Celsinho Hoffmann sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 36 minutes into the game, Sport Club Recife's Romário Monteiro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Franklin Araújo made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. In the 42nd minute, Celso Quadros hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Celsinho Hoffmann's shot from long distance in the 45th minute was not bad at all, but Sport Club Recife's Nelsinho Berger knew what was happening and pushed the ball into his arms just before it hit the right post.
