Itatiaia FC's Ernesto Fernandez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elder Fernandes in the 19th minute of play. Gláuber Cerezo charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gláuber Cerezo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 20 played minutes Xambioa got a freekick which was hit by Gláuber Cerezo. In the 21st minute, Benedito Novaes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 22nd minute, André Luiz Vinhas fired a really elegant long shot, but Norberto Mandrak threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. Itatiaia FC's Germano Rezende got his second yellow card of the match in the 24th minute. The referee ordered Germano Rezende off the ground. Xambioa's Norberto Mandrak proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save Xambioa from getting a goal against them. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 94 minutes into the match, Itatiaia FC's goal looked a bit too open when Valdemar da Silva came free, but Ernesto Fernandez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 95th match minute, Itatiaia FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paulo Britto to maneuver through the defense. Itatiaia FC succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Xambioa had controlled the match.
