In the 22nd minute, Frédson Baiano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gugu Meireles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dorian Simões in the 23rd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Assurua's zone, Gildo Catarinense stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ricardinho Toledo came out of the goal and Gildo Catarinense tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gildo Catarinense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricardinho Toledo having to interfere. Ricardinho Toledo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gildo Catarinense in the 31st minute of play. When Eduardo Alcântara fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kalay's protests and gave Eduardo Alcântara a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Kalay's Eduardo Alcântara got a free kick in the 36th minute. The referee felt a red card was in order, 40 minutes into the game, when Rui Braga put in a rough tackle. 40 minutes into the game, one of Kalay:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 56thth minute of the game Dorian Simões who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Kalay's Gugu Meireles was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. João Carlos Prata hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. Umberto Romero was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 61st played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Gildo Catarinense came free with the goalkeeper in the 65th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Ricardinho Toledo could save by the left post. Kalay's Maurinho Paraibano got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gugu Meireles showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emanuel Godoi, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. 76 minutes into the game, Assurua's Dorian Simões nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gugu Meireles made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0.
