Mauro Mumbach showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Felipe Capixaba in the 29th minute of the match. The Japiuba SS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mauro Mumbach should have stopped the shot. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Oswaldo Linhares in the 53rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vitório Paiva prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Oswaldo Linhares recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Frédson Vargas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vitório Paiva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredo Nóbrega in the 67th minute of play. S.E.Palmeiras's Vitório Paiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oswaldo Linhares in the 68th minute of play. 70 minutes into the match, Japiuba SS's goal looked a bit too open when Frédson Vargas came free, but Mauro Mumbach reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 81st minute, Felipe Capixaba managed to get in a good position for a shot. S.E.Palmeiras's supporters rose to their feet, but Felipe Capixaba was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mauro Mumbach breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 84 minutes, Luisinho Esteves mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the S.E.Palmeiras and the Japiuba SS players grew even worse after the yellow card.
