The audience was convinced that Zé Augusto Prata's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kléberson Mota was relentless in the 9th minute of the game. Zé Augusto Prata fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kléberson Mota having to interfere. Sport Club Internacional's Kléberson Mota played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zé Augusto Prata in the 41st minute of play. Kléberson Mota took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zé Augusto Prata, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Zé Augusto Prata had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Artur de Amorim stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Raí Alcântara in the 52nd minute of play forced Sport Club Internacional's goalkeeper Kléberson Mota to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Marco Cabral fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kotka's protests and gave Marco Cabral a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Kotka's Marco Cabral got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Jarbas Guerra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Caco Perez having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Zé Augusto Prata kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Kléberson Mota. That made the score 0-2 in the 63 minute of play. José Carlos Faria who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 67thth minute tested the skills of Kléberson Mota when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Kotka's Raí Alcântara pulled a muscle in his leg after 67 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Ivo Toledo charged in rather forcefully in the 67th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ivo Toledo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Kotka booed when Sport Club Internacional was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ivo Toledo didn't get a good kick on the ball.
