But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Iuri Netto couldn't finish the play. In the 23rd minute of the match, Emílio Lira tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Lino Reis saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. 24 minutes into the match, Emílio Lira dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Lino Reis, 3-0. 30 minutes into the game, Lukasz Dziewedik cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Emílio Passos was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by João Adolfo Netto in the 35th minute of play forced Fluminense FC's goalkeeper Emílio Passos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Emílio Passos stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of João Adolfo Netto's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling João Adolfo Netto in the 42nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Emílio Passos prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After having played for 83 minutes, João Adolfo Netto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. União Soviética's supporters crossed their fingers, but João Adolfo Netto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the match had gone on for 84 minutes, Eugênio Ferraz took a quick shot and it went in 3-3 without a chance for Emílio Passos to make any attempt to save it. União Soviética were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
