In the 7th minute Reynaldo Guerra shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Laércio Montenegro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 9 minutes in the game, José Paulo Dante dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Reynaldo Guerra in the 11th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Laércio Montenegro saved Macaé FC from getting behind. Laércio Montenegro was a little too slow when Dadá de Brito got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 14th minute. The score was now 1-0. After 22 minutes, Anderson Linares mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Macaé FC and the Juventude FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Macaé FC getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Anderson Linares hit a great ball. Laércio Montenegro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Reynaldo Guerra, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice moves José Paulo Dante could shoot a difficult shot in the 25th minute, which Laércio Montenegro however easily saved by the left post. Macaé FC's Laércio Montenegro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reynaldo Guerra in the 30th minute of play. In the 32nd minute Geovani Salles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Moisés Sanches saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Anderson Linares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Moisés Sanches tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Juventude FC booed when Macaé FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Victor Hoffmann didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dráusio Queiroz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. José Paulo Dante who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 41stth minute tested the skills of Laércio Montenegro when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 43rd match minute, Macaé FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by David da Fonseca to maneuver through the defense. In the 48th minute, Geovani Salles made a precise shot to the right of Moisés Sanches. Juventude FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Reynaldo Guerra to make the kick off. A collision led to Macaé FC getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Reginaldo Godoi hit a great ball. Reginaldo Godoi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Paulo Dante in the 65th minute of play forced Macaé FC's goalkeeper Laércio Montenegro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dadá de Brito during the 67th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Juventude FC's Dadá de Brito got a free kick in the 67th minute. 76 minutes into the match, Macaé FC's goal looked a bit too open when Dadá de Brito came free, but Laércio Montenegro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Macaé FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Reginaldo Godoi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Macaé FC's Alberto Alcântara got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Juventude FC were victorious despite being under pressure from Macaé FC for much of the match.
