The referee showed Valério Linares the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Lama getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Valério Linares hit a great ball. If Pedrão Paes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 26th minute of the match Romeu Valle shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Olívio de Sousa showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Flavinho Quintal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Olívio de Sousa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 32 minutes into the match, Pesqueirinho AD's goal looked a bit too open when Dalmo de Barros came free, but Danilo Andrade reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 38th minute Flavinho Quintal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Olívio de Sousa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Lenílson da Silva during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Olívio de Sousa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Flavinho Quintal was the one to do the kick off. Lama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carlos Alberto Capixaba was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Lama booed when Pesqueirinho AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juninho Severo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Danilo Andrade made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Humberto Barreto in the 67th minute of play. Pedrão Paes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Olívio de Sousa having to interfere. Pedrão Paes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 71st minute of the match, but Olívio de Sousa made a huge save. Danilo Andrade showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Alberto Capixaba in the 83rd minute of the match. 85 minutes into the match, Pesqueirinho AD's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Alberto Capixaba came free, but Danilo Andrade reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
