Gilberto da Cunha hit a great ball. After 56 minutes of play, Lama's Carlos Alberto Capixaba made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Leopoldo Quirino was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 60th minute, Nilson Meirelles got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Alberto Capixaba couldn't finish the play. 73 minutes into the match, Itaboraí FC's Juarês Varela sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Olívio de Sousa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Carlos Alberto Capixaba got free with Leopoldo Quirino in the 85th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Leopoldo Quirino made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dalmo de Barros in the 88th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dalmo de Barros in the 89th minute of play forced Itaboraí FC's goalkeeper Leopoldo Quirino to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
