Luiz Fábio Carioca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Caetano Donato tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 41 minutes into the match, Pessoa's goalkeeper Caetano Donato had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Oséias Chaves. A collision led to Esmaratita getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Mário Cardoso hit a great ball. Basílio Luz might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Claudinei Botelho. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Basílio Luz ran back to his position shaking his head. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Pessoa's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
