The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After having played for 5 minutes, Fábio Reis managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Republica's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fábio Reis was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Fábio Reis struck a weak shot in the 7th minute. Waldemar da Silva didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Republica. In the 8th minute, Benjamim Castro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Belmiro Queirós charged in rather forcefully in the 9th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Belmiro Queirós the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Marcondesia EC getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Belmiro Queirós hit a great ball. In the 11th minute, Leonel Pombal ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Waldemar da Silva was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Benjamim Castro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Waldemar da Silva having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Marcondesia EC's zone, Leonel Pombal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Waldemar da Silva came out of the goal and Leonel Pombal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Benjamim Castro hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. With an all-out effort, Marcondesia EC's Victor Barral threw himself towards the right post 19 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Denílson Urbano, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Victor Barral made a fantastic save in the 22nd minute, when Juvenal Barros sent off a good shot on target. Dé Amaral's late challenge caught a Marcondesia EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dé Amaral helped the player get up and apologised. Geraldo Sampaio, 24 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Leonel Pombal in the 26th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Waldemar da Silva saved Marcondesia EC from getting behind. After some careless play in the Marcondesia EC defense, Leonel Pombal kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Waldemar da Silva. The Marcondesia EC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Waldemar da Silva should have stopped the shot. When the match had gone on for 32 minutes, Leonel Pombal put it in 0-3 from a short distance just to the right of Waldemar da Silva. In the 37th minute of the match Dagoberto da Mata shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Waldemar da Silva showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Laerte de Salles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Waldemar da Silva tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Juvenal Barros got free with Victor Barral in the 44th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Leonel Pombal made the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Fábio Reis managed to get in a good position for a shot. Republica's supporters rose to their feet, but Fábio Reis was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Waldemar da Silva breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 56 minutes into the game, Geraldo Sampaio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Marcondesia EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Republica the free kick. After 56 played minutes Marcondesia EC got a freekick which was hit by Geraldo Sampaio. After 70 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Republica! In the 80th match minute, Republica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Laerte de Salles to maneuver through the defense. Republica's Victor Barral played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sílvio Luís Seco in the 82nd minute of play. Benjamim Castro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Waldemar da Silva read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 92nd minute of play. Benjamim Castro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 95th minute, Marcondesia EC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Laerte de Salles fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Victor Barral stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sílvio Luís Seco's shot from short distance in the 98th minute. Republica's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
