When the match clock showed 39 minutes, the score became 1-3 when Luiz Fernando Dantas sped through Palmeiras's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Betão Aparecido. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luiz Fernando Dantas in the 43rd minute of play forced Palmeiras's goalkeeper Betão Aparecido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Palmeiras's Telmo Sanches got a free kick in the 47th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.
