The supporters of Itaperuna FC booed when West Ham was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jarbas Diniz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Itaperuna FC's Claudinei Lira suffered a sore thigh after 7 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Célio Alcântara during the 8th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in West Ham fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 7th minute. Penalty! A collision led to West Ham getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Flavinho Rosado hit a great ball. Antônio Carlos Ferraz's late challenge caught a West Ham's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Antônio Carlos Ferraz helped the player get up and apologised. After 14 played minutes Itaperuna FC got a freekick which was hit by Antônio Carlos Ferraz. Betão Messias showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paulo Renato Souza, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. Kléber Ortiz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Fabrício Maciel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Betão Messias took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Renato Souza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Kléber Ortiz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Betão Messias didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when West Ham's Paulo Renato Souza shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 1-0 in the ordered_time% minute. In the 30th minute of the match, Flavinho Rosado got a very nice opportunity to score, but Betão Messias was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Flavinho Rosado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Betão Messias having to interfere. In the 35th minute Paulo Renato Souza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Betão Messias saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Flavinho Rosado came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the West Ham fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Flavinho Rosado couldn't finish the play. After 43 played minutes Itaperuna FC got a freekick which was hit by Antônio Carlos Ferraz. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

After having played for 54 minutes, Paulo Renato Souza managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. West Ham's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paulo Renato Souza was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. West Ham's supporters rose to their feet, but Paulo Renato Souza was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Betão Messias breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fabrício Maciel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kléber Ortiz in the 80th minute of play. Itaperuna FC's Kléber Ortiz pulled a muscle in his back after 81 minutes and couldn't finish the game. In the 81st minute, one of West Ham:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for West Ham. The referee gave Itaperuna FC a penalty, 84 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Antônio Carlos Alves, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of West Ham's Fabrício Maciel. 1-1. Flavinho Rosado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Betão Messias having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Flavinho Rosado in the 92nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Betão Messias saved Itaperuna FC from getting behind. Betão Messias came out of the goal in the 94th minute to try and stop a shot by West Ham's Flavinho Rosado. But to his dismay, Flavinho Rosado quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Paulo Renato Souza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Betão Messias having to interfere. 99 minutes into the game, West Ham's Flavinho Rosado nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Betão Messias made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. West Ham's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
