An unexpectedly hard shot by José Maria da Silva in the 5th minute of play forced Goytacaz's goalkeeper Richard Bastos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Leandro Rezende scored 0-1 in the 6th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Richard Bastos, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 9 minutes, Cido Vides mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Chonin and the Goytacaz players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 9th match minute, Chonin was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cido Vides to maneuver through the defense. In the 14th minute Leandro Rezende shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richard Bastos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 15 minutes, Cido Vides managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Chonin's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cido Vides was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Chonin booed when Goytacaz was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vânderson Trevisan didn't get a good kick on the ball. José Maria da Silva recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Chonin getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Ulysses Netto hit a great ball. After the first half Chonin were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Valdir Teles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Daniel das Neves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 56 minutes into the match, Goytacaz's goal looked a bit too open when Leandro Rezende came free, but Richard Bastos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Daniel das Neves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luizão Porto in the 58th minute of play. Richard Bastos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cido Vides, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. After 66 minutes, André Chrusciel mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Goytacaz and the Chonin players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in Goytacaz's zone, Leandro Rezende stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Richard Bastos came out of the goal and Leandro Rezende tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice moves José Maria da Silva could shoot a difficult shot in the 69th minute, which Richard Bastos however easily saved by the left post. If Luizão Porto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by João Vítor Magalhães during the 71st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Chonin's João Vítor Magalhães got a free kick in the 71st minute. Goytacaz's defense didn't have a chance, in the 74th minute, when José Maria da Silva scored to the left of an out of position Richard Bastos, making the score, 0-2. After 81 played minutes Goytacaz got a freekick which was hit by André Chrusciel. Richard Bastos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leandro Rezende in the 84th minute of play. 90 minutes into the game, Goytacaz's Luizão Porto nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Daniel das Neves made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Goytacaz's attentive Gernando Baptista managed to snatch the ball when Ulysses Netto made a throw-in in the 94th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gernando Baptista in the 95th minute of play forced Chonin's goalkeeper Daniel das Neves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Chonin eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
