In the 17th minute, Serafim Batista got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Célio Secco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Falcão Amorim in the 18th minute of play. Emílio Gonçalves's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gino Gomes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. Emílio Gonçalves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Wilson Negri received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Gino Gomes came out and tried to block the shot, but Wilson Negri slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 28th minute. Emílio Gonçalves's late challenge caught a Pumas's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Emílio Gonçalves helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Pumas booed when Quitimbu SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emílio Gonçalves didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 33 minutes, Falcão Amorim made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Quitimbu SC's Célio Secco tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Pumas's zone, Wilson Negri stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gino Gomes came out of the goal and Wilson Negri tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hamílton Saldanha during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 48th minute of the match Quitimbu SC got a corner. Pumas's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ulisses Pires ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Quitimbu SC's Ulisses Pires to fire away a dangerous shot which Gino Gomes despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Falcão Amorim to make the kick off. Hamílton Saldanha kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. After recieving a nice pass, Pumas's Ismael Pinheiro tried to score from far away in the 56th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Serafim Batista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 61 minutes into the match, Pumas's goal looked a bit too open when Wilson Negri came free, but Gino Gomes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Serafim Batista fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Célio Secco having to interfere. If Marco Diniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 68th minute the ball was on its way in behind Pumas's goalkeeper Gino Gomes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Kléber Senna fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Célio Secco having to interfere. In the 75th match minute, Pumas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aloísio Magalhães to maneuver through the defense. 78 minutes into the game, Emílio Gonçalves cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Gino Gomes was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Célio Secco made an important save on a dangerous shot by Serafim Batista in the 88th minute. In the 89th minute, Emílio Gonçalves made a precise shot to the right of Gino Gomes. Pumas's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Quitimbu SC had won after a very even match.
