Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when William Veloso kicked off to start the match. Fernandão Sarmentos short, quick shot in the 3rdth minute got Dito Fonseca to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 4 minutes into the match, Varzeao EC's goal looked a bit too open when Fellipe Abreu came free, but Dito Fonseca reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 6th minute of the match Maranhão FC got a corner. Varzeao EC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Emílio Tavares ran over to the corner to take the kick. Thanks to some nice moves Fernandão Sarmento could shoot a difficult shot in the 9th minute, which Dito Fonseca however easily saved by the left post. Fernandão Sarmento recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 11th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dito Fonseca made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Amauri Oliveira in the 13th minute of play. 14 minutes into the match, Varzeao EC's goalkeeper Dito Fonseca had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fernandão Sarmento. Guilherme Simão hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. In the 18th minute, Giovanni Simões hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Maranhão FC's Roger Breckenfeld played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by William Veloso in the 26th minute of play. Giovanni Simões hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. After 32 played minutes, Maranhão FC's Emílio Tavares shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Dito Fonseca came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Maranhão FC reached it. Thanks to some nice moves Amauri Oliveira could shoot a difficult shot in the 34th minute, which Dito Fonseca however easily saved by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fabiano Silveira in the 36th minute of play forced Varzeao EC's goalkeeper Dito Fonseca to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Amauri Oliveira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dito Fonseca made an important save on a dangerous shot by Fernandão Sarmento in the 42nd minute. In the 44th minute, William Veloso left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Varzeao EC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. After the first half Varzeao EC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Amauri Oliveira made the kick off in the second half. Luís Fabiano Silveira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Dito Fonseca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 54th minute Fernandão Sarmento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dito Fonseca saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 57th minute, Fernandão Sarmento got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Luiz Eduardo Souza kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. Fellipe Abreu scored 1-2 in the 60th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dito Fonseca, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Emílio Tavares's late challenge caught a Varzeao EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Emílio Tavares helped the player get up and apologised. After 66 played minutes Varzeao EC got a freekick which was hit by Túlio Costa. A collision led to Varzeao EC getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Túlio Costa hit a great ball. Dito Fonseca took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fernandão Sarmento, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 72 minutes, Fernandão Sarmento managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Maranhão FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fernandão Sarmento was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Varzeao EC's Nilmar Pena got a free kick in the 73rd minute. If William Veloso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dito Fonseca showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fernandão Sarmento in the 82nd minute of the match. 84 minutes into the match, Maranhão FC's goal looked a bit too open when William Veloso came free, but Roger Breckenfeld reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Fernandão Sarmento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dito Fonseca made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luís Fabiano Silveira in the 89th minute of play. In the 90th minute, Anísio da Rocha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Varzeao EC's Dito Fonseca played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fellipe Abreu in the 91st minute of play. When Maranhão FC's Fernandão Sarmento in the 93rd minute got a chance for a shot 93rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Varzeao EC's goalie prevented a goal. Varzeao EC were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Maranhão FC's much stronger midfield.
