Maracanu's Valdir Motta got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Maracanu booed when Hamburgberg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edson Rosa didn't get a good kick on the ball. After recieving a nice pass, Maracanu's Davi Machado tried to score from far away in the 22nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Gildo Pires made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Percy Braga sent off a good shot on target. In the 26th minute, Percy Braga fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Gildo Pires, passed just outside the right post. Aníbal Baptista kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Jean Paranaense's late challenge caught a Hamburgberg's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jean Paranaense helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Maracanu's Jean Paranaense got a free kick in the 36th minute. In the 37th minute Edson Rosa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aírton Ceresso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gildo Pires was out of position in the 39 minute of play, and Valdir Motta capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Valdir Motta really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Aníbal Baptista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Valdir Motta in the 45th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gildo Pires prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Aírton Ceresso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aníbal Baptista, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Valdir Motta struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Gildo Pires didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Maracanu. Aírton Ceresso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Geraldo Madureira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hamburgberg's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Luisinho Machado in the 65th minute. A nice corner shot did that Luisinho Machado got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Aírton Ceresso quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Hamburgberg's Gildo Pires played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Percy Braga in the 69th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Aníbal Baptista got free with Aírton Ceresso in the 75th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Percy Braga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gildo Pires having to interfere. Aníbal Baptista received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Aírton Ceresso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
