In the 15th match minute, PiuPiu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jefferson Xavier to maneuver through the defense. PiuPiu's Nelson da Silva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juninho Gaúcho in the 17th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juninho Gaúcho in the 41st minute of play forced PiuPiu's goalkeeper Nelson da Silva to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dagoberto Toledo hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. A collision led to PiuPiu getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Jefferson Xavier hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Juninho Gaúcho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nelson da Silva was relentless in the 82nd minute of the game.
