Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Percival Costa took the kick off in the first half of the match. 8 minutes into the game, Doriva Fantini cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Geraldo Paiva was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 11 minutes into the game, Conrado Brasil was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Funchal's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Band MZC the free kick. Conrado Brasil kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. After 13 played minutes, Band MZC's Roger Pontes shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Anselmo Chaves came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Band MZC reached it. Doriva Fantini sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Geraldo Paiva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Osvaldinho Hames in the 16th minute of play. After 18 minutes, Rui Barral mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Band MZC and the Funchal players grew even worse after the yellow card. Rui Barral hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Percival Costa struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Anselmo Chaves didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Band MZC. Doriva Fantini fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geraldo Paiva having to interfere. Sidnei Amaral who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 27thth minute tested the skills of Geraldo Paiva when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Doriva Fantini struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Geraldo Paiva didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Funchal. Osvaldinho Hames might have been able to make a better finish in the 32nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Geraldo Paiva. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Osvaldinho Hames ran back to his position shaking his head. Doriva Fantini fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geraldo Paiva having to interfere. Band MZC's Geraldo Paiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sidnei Amaral in the 39th minute of play. Osvaldinho Hames fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geraldo Paiva having to interfere. After having played for 47 minutes, Sidnei Amaral managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Funchal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sidnei Amaral was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.
After 52 minutes of play, Funchal's Doriva Fantini made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Geraldo Paiva was left in no man's land by his defense there! Doriva Fantini fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geraldo Paiva having to interfere. In the 61st match minute, Funchal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nilton Medeiros to maneuver through the defense. Osvaldinho Hames scored 3-0 in the 63rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Geraldo Paiva, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Osvaldinho Hames sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Armando Sousa hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Band MZC's zone, David Freitas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Geraldo Paiva came out of the goal and David Freitas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Funchal's Jean Messias got a free kick in the 74th minute. In a very dangerous position, a player in Funchal fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 78th minute. Penalty! Rui Barral placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Osvaldinho Hames during the 84th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 84th match minute, Funchal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Osvaldinho Hames to maneuver through the defense. Rui Barral hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Band MZC's zone, Osvaldinho Hames stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Geraldo Paiva came out of the goal and Osvaldinho Hames tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Funchal had played much better football throughout.
