Filiberto Mambru fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dalmo Corrêa having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Guga Correia managed to get in a good position for a shot. Montes Claros F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Guga Correia was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dalmo Corrêa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Kléberson Domingues hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Montes Claros F.C.'s Filiberto Mambru got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dalmo Corrêa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Waldir Mazza, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Mauro Pernambucano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kléberson Domingues in the 41st minute of the match. After some careless play in the Montes Claros F.C. defense, Kléberson Domingues kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mauro Pernambucano. The Montes Claros F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mauro Pernambucano should have stopped the shot. After a rather tough play, SEPLAN's Chico Magalhães got a free kick in the 46th minute. With a little luck, SEPLAN's Dalmo Corrêa got control of the ball when Guga Correia tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Filiberto Mambru made the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the SEPLAN defense, Filiberto Mambru kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dalmo Corrêa. The SEPLAN fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dalmo Corrêa should have stopped the shot. If Filiberto Mambru had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dalmo Corrêa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Filiberto Mambru in the 68th minute of play. If Kléberson Domingues had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nico Vides could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 71st minute of the match, but Mauro Pernambucano made a huge save. 75 minutes into the match, Montes Claros F.C.'s goalkeeper Mauro Pernambucano had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nico Vides. Leonardo Dracena charged in rather forcefully in the 76th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Leonardo Dracena the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 76th match minute, Montes Claros F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leonardo Dracena to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kléberson Domingues in the 77th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mauro Pernambucano saved Montes Claros F.C. from getting behind. The supporters of SEPLAN booed when Montes Claros F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Natanael Teixeira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mauro Pernambucano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kléberson Domingues, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dalmo Corrêa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Filiberto Mambru's shot from short distance in the 88th minute. Dalmo Corrêa didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Eddie Månsson went, in the 90th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-2 was the resulting score. In the 95th minute Kléberson Domingues shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mauro Pernambucano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Waldir Mazza in the 96th minute of play forced SEPLAN's goalkeeper Dalmo Corrêa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Montes Claros F.C. fully deserved thier win.
