The referee ignored Wales's protests and gave Gilberto de Almeida a yellow card for diving instead. Gilberto de Almeida kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. Horácio Machado received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Waldemar Viana tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Wales's Waldemar Viana played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leonel Cruz in the 15th minute of play. A collision led to Schmidtinho getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Egídio Gaúcho hit a great ball. With a little luck, Schmidtinho's Danilo Coelho got control of the ball when Dudu Vianna tried to sneak it across the goal line. Dadá Queirós hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. In the 21st minute Leonel Cruz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Waldemar Viana saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Egídio Gaúcho during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dudu Vianna was the one to do the kick off. Dudu Vianna scored 1-0 in the 55th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Danilo Coelho, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Dudu Vianna fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danilo Coelho having to interfere. Edu Perez's late challenge caught a Schmidtinho's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Edu Perez helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Wales getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Edu Perez hit a great ball. Dudu Vianna recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 76th match minute, Schmidtinho was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Egídio Gaúcho to maneuver through the defense. In the 83rd minute, Leonel Cruz reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Waldemar Viana. The goal made the score 1-2. Waldemar Viana made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leonel Cruz in the 87th minute of play. Leonel Cruz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Waldemar Viana tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Wales supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Schmidtinho's performance. The match ended with a win for Schmidtinho.
