In the 15th minute Junior Bomba shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Agostinho Pinheiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 17th minute, Osvaldo Pimenta got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Li Zhen Bin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Luís Paraíba, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. After a rather tough play, Ipeuna AD's Gino Medeiros got a free kick in the 30th minute. When Junior Bomba came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Von Dutch fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Junior Bomba couldn't finish the play. An unexpected shot in the 37th minute by Kléber Secco got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. If Kléber Secco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gabriel Aguiar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Li Zhen Bin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. João Pedro de Senna might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Agostinho Pinheiro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. João Pedro de Senna ran back to his position shaking his head. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Junior Bomba to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Ipeuna AD's zone, Luís Fábio da Rocha stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Agostinho Pinheiro came out of the goal and Luís Fábio da Rocha tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Luís Fábio da Rocha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Agostinho Pinheiro having to interfere.
