To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of WAIO booed when Etanois FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vladimir Abraão didn't get a good kick on the ball. Murilo Sampaio took the ball and in the 15 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Luís Gustavo Dantas. Luís Gustavo Dantas dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Dorival Quintal might have been able to make a better finish in the 18th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Luís Gustavo Dantas. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dorival Quintal ran back to his position shaking his head. Luís Gustavo Dantas stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rui Nogueira's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. In the 21st minute, Dorival Quintal ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Luís Gustavo Dantas was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Luís Gustavo Dantas stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rui Nogueira's shot from short distance in the 25th minute. The audience was convinced that João Carlos Meira's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Luís Gustavo Dantas was relentless in the 26th minute of the game. Luís Gustavo Dantas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dorival Quintal, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. WAIO's supporters rose to their feet, but Dorival Quintal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luís Gustavo Dantas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vito Nóbrega in the 35th minute of play forced Etanois FC's goalkeeper Luís Gustavo Dantas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luís Gustavo Dantas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Carlos Meira in the 36th minute of play. 39 minutes into the game, Jano Pernambucano cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Cipriano Gaspar was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After having played for 44 minutes, Rui Nogueira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. WAIO's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rui Nogueira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 45th minute, Rui Nogueira left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The WAIO fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. After the first half WAIO were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Edmundo Furtado to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rui Nogueira in the 59th minute of play forced Etanois FC's goalkeeper Luís Gustavo Dantas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. WAIO's Cipriano Gaspar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jano Pernambucano in the 64th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edmundo Furtado in the 66th minute of play forced WAIO's goalkeeper Cipriano Gaspar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luís Gustavo Dantas was a little too slow when João Carlos Meira got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 67th minute. The score was now 1-4. 71 minutes into the match, João Carlos Meira dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Luís Gustavo Dantas, 1-5. 74 minutes into the match, Etanois FC's goal looked a bit too open when Dorival Quintal came free, but Luís Gustavo Dantas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. João Carlos Meira scored 1-6 in the 77th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Luís Gustavo Dantas, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Dorival Quintal struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Luís Gustavo Dantas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for WAIO. In the 85th minute, Edmundo Furtado made a precise shot to the right of Cipriano Gaspar. WAIO's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-6. When Murilo Sampaio came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the WAIO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Murilo Sampaio couldn't finish the play.
