Itaucu's Miguel Madureira got a good chance for a goal in the 10th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. André Vasconcelos hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Betão Vieira in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jacinto da Fonseca saved Espíritossantense A.C. from getting behind. Miguel Madureira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Jacinto da Fonseca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fred Pena thought of kicking away a contribution in front of goal but messed it up so badly that the ball went to the right of an astonished Wesley Meireles, a very annoying self made goal in the 20th minute which led to 1-0. After a rather tough play, Espíritossantense A.C.'s André Vasconcelos got a free kick in the 23rd minute. In the 26th minute Miguel Madureira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacinto da Fonseca saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Betão Vieira struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Jacinto da Fonseca didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Itaucu. Espíritossantense A.C.'s Jacinto da Fonseca played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Miguel Madureira in the 35th minute of play. André Vasconcelos kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Cafu Trigo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Itaucu's supporters rose to their feet, but Cafu Trigo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jacinto da Fonseca breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Durval Eger made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Espíritossantense A.C. booed when Itaucu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mário Mendes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wesley Meireles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Durval Eger, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. André Vasconcelos's late challenge caught a Itaucu's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. André Vasconcelos helped the player get up and apologised. In the 65th match minute, Espíritossantense A.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by André Vasconcelos to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Itaucu's zone, Durval Eger stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wesley Meireles came out of the goal and Durval Eger tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Itaucu booed when Espíritossantense A.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. André Vasconcelos didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Geovânio Paranaense managed to get in a good position for a shot. Itaucu's supporters rose to their feet, but Geovânio Paranaense was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jacinto da Fonseca breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 91st minute, Itaucu's Cafu Trigo dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-1. In the 94th minute, Mário Mendes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 97th minute, Aurelio Dantae left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Espíritossantense A.C. fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. When the referee blew the final whistle, Espíritossantense A.C. could leave the field as winners, despite Itaucu having more of the ball for most of the match.
